Sycuan Breaks Ground on New Gas Station and Convenience Store

Sycuan Tribal Development Corporation (STDC) announced that construction has started on its new Sycuan Square project. The first phase of the project includes a 5,500 square-foot convenience store and 1,600 square-foot gas station. The gas station will have 8 fuel dispensers complete with 16 nozzles and will dispense three grades of unleaded and diesel fuel, supplying the cheapest fuel in the area.

STDC has plans to expand the area in the future including moving the current Sycuan Medical and Dental Center to Sycuan Square and adding mixed-use and retail space. The new location of the center will provide greater visibility and easier access for the public and local community to use the facilities.

“On behalf of Sycuan, it is an honor and a blessing to take part on this monumental day,” said Joshua Muse, chairman of the Sycuan Tribal Development Corporation Board. “This project is a very critical milestone that will enhance the tribe’s economic security and provide needed benefits and amenities to our tribal members, team members, customers and community members.”

“Today is a very exciting day as we break ground on our new Sycuan Square,” said Cody Martinez, chairman of the Sycuan Tribal Council. “The new gas station and convenience store will not only be a great addition to our current offerings, but it will also generate much desired tax revenue for the tribe. The tax revenues will go towards essential government programs and services such as schools, roads and water infrastructure.”

Several road improvements, including widening parts of Dehesa Road and the installation of a new traffic signal will be made during the construction of Sycuan Square. The new gas station and convenience store is set to open in September 2019.
