On Wednesday, Sycuan Casino Resort proudly presented $5,000 to Second Chance in support of their Community Garden.
The Second Chance Garden allows participants to gain hands-on experience with urban agriculture. This program combines classroom and experiential learning, with classes on cooking/nutrition, food justice, financial literacy, job readiness, and youth development workshops.
All garden produce is sold through a Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA), restaurants and pop-up farm stands. All revenue generated from sales helps provides stipends, supplies and instruction.
Additionally, in honor of Second Chance’s 30th Anniversary, the organization will be hosting a Community Day the last Friday of the month. Join Second Chance on Friday January 27 for a fun afternoon with local vendors, fresh produce, crafts, health and family services and more.
Each year, hundreds of justice involved men, women and youth come to Second Chance seeking positive pathways to meaningful change. Second Chance offers specialized workforce readiness training, sober-living housing, educational programs and support services essential to achieving self-sufficiency.
