Sometimes you need to switch things up and break out of your normal date night routine. If you’re looking for an exciting night on the town or a relaxing evening at the movies, the city of San Diego has a variety of activities for couples.

From taking a stroll through Balboa Park to a gondola ride around the Coronado Cays, below are 9 things to do in San Diego for couples.


1. THE LOT

Dinner and a movie is a timeless date for couples of all ages. THE LOT in Liberty Station and La Jolla offers a modern experience where you can do both at the same place. Couples can enjoy a full menu and drinks both before, during or after a movie. What’s even better is all the chairs in the movie theatre recline for ultimate relaxation.

2. Ballast Point

Breweries are a great place for a casual date and San Diego county is a mecca for local craft brewers. One of San Diego most popular breweries is Ballast Point Brewing. It now has seven locations including Miramar, Little Italy and Scripps Ranch. Ballast Point has an extensive beer list ranging from IPAs to stouts. A few locations also offer brewery tours to get behind-the-scenes and learn more about production.

Sycuan Casino is a perfect place for a fun Vegas date night experience, without having to leave San Diego. Sycuan’s Live & Up Close theatre features a variety of acts year-round. With only 457 seats in the venue, there’s not a bad seat in the house! If you’re feeling lucky, you can try your luck on a variety of games including blackjack, bingo, poker and slots. With multiple restaurants, live entertainment and a variety of games to choose from, couples could easily spend an entire day at the best casino in San Diego.

Located right on Harbor Island, Coasterra features spectacular views of the San Diego Bay, swanky cocktails and modern Mexican cuisine. 5. Balboa Park

Balboa Park has 17 incredibly unique museums and culture centers. It’s a perfect place to take a stroll through the park and explore the different sites with your significant other. A few of Balboa Park’s most popular attractions include San Diego Museum of Man, San Diego Natural History Museum (theNAT) and Botanical Building and Lily Pond. Mad House Comedy Club has live standup comedy and a full drink and food menu. The club features local to national comedians and even has open mic nights throughout the week. The venue is also located in Downtown San Diego at Horton Plaza, so once the show is over you are walking distance to several bars and restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter.

7. The Gondola Company

One incredibly romantic way to spend the evening is with The Gondola Company. The Gondola Company offers two types of cruises for couples. The Pasaporto Cruise and the Sunset cruise are relaxing and romantic gondola cruises through the canals and waterways of the Coronado Island Cays. The gondoliers are extremely talented and will serenade you during the ride. Guests can purchase wine or are invited to bring their own. It’s a totally unique experience that won’t be forgotten.

Tin Roof is a live music bar located in Downtown San Diego. It’s a perfect casual date night spot to grab a few drinks and listen to live bands. Tin Roof has different artists that play Monday through Friday, so you could head out earlier in the week to beat the weekend crowds. 9. Whaley House Museum

If you want to switch things up from your normal date night routine, grab dinner in Old Town and then take one of their Nighttime Tours.
