Choosing a Hero to Climb For: Sycuan Casino Resort Partners with FirefighterAid

Sycuan Police and Fire Department participate in 2025 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Sycuan Casino Resort was proud to return as a sponsor for the 2025 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, hosted by FirefighterAid at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront. Members of the Sycuan Police and Fire Department also participated by climbing 110 flights of stairs to honor the 403 first responders who sacrificed their lives during the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.

“As I got tired, I looked down at the lanyard around my neck that had the picture of Port Authority Police Officer Kenneth F. Tietjen, remembering his sacrifice and pushing me to fight through the want to stop climbing,” Larry Robertson, Sergeant of the Sycuan Police Department said.

During the event, each participant selected a hero to honor and wore a badge displaying that first responder’s official agency photo. As they climbed, the badge served as a powerful visual tribute to the lives lost and the extraordinary courage shown.

“As a 34-year veteran in law enforcement completing my first stair climb event, with each step I felt the privilege and honor to be able to climb in memory to ensure their sacrifices continue to live on,” Larry Robertson, Sergeant of the Sycuan Police Department said.

As we remembered these heroes, we honored their sacrifices and strengthened our partnership with the community, standing together in remembrance, resilience, and respect. For that reason, we are proud partners and participants of the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, helping the nonprofit’s mission of providing care, relief, and health awareness for firefighters and their families.

Conclusion

Sycuan Casino Resort remains committed to honoring the heroes of 9/11 through its ongoing partnership with FirefighterAid. The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb honored the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who risked their lives to save others during the World Trade Center attack. Every step was a tribute to the legacy they left behind. Every climb was a promise to never forget.
