José Hernández is a master of mariachi music. A world-renowned musician, composer, and educator, José Hernández continues to break barriers in the world of mariachi.

As part of the fifth generation of mariachi, José brings the pleasure of mariachi music to audiences around the world. He is the founder of two world-renowned ensembles: Mariachi Sol de México® and Reyna de los Ángeles®, the first professional women’s mariachi ensemble in the Americas.

José continues to advance the art of mariachi with new compositions and bold arrangements. He has composed, arranged, and provided music for 14 Sol de México® albums. He sings, and plays the trumpet, violin, guitarrón, and vihuela, and has performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages. He has recorded with the most respected and recognized names in the industry, including Selena, Vicente Fernández, Luis Miguel, Bryan Adams and the Beach Boys, and has received four Grammy nominations.
José’s musical inspirations are rich and diverse, ranging from Leonard Bernstein to Agustín Lara, Glenn Miller to José Alfredo Jiménez. One of the things José is most proud of having accomplished is the establishment of the Sol de México symphony orchestra, bringing their powerful and vibrant sound to mariachi lovers around the world.

José is an exciting ambassador for mariachi music. He is working hard to inspire and empower the next generation of musicians through educational initiatives of his own development: Mariachi Nationals and the Summer Institute and the Mariachi Heritage Society.

The humble effort of José Hernández is to remain the voice and medium for the mariachi, to reflect the valuable cultural heritage through the pages of the mariachi, to express his soulful vision of the mariachi without an end – this for José, is the passion for Mariachi.
