Granger Smith was born and raised a proud Texan. His life changed at 14 years old when he decided to teach himself to play the guitar motivated by two factors: He thought it would make girls pay attention to him and the fact that George Strait played one. By the time he was 15, he was performing weekends on small town stages in North Texas. And as a 19-year-old college student, he made an album he pre-sold to friends around campus.

The following year, Smith moved to Tennessee where he absorbed the craft of songwriting from some of the best, cutting his teeth on countless stages as both a singer and as a steel guitar player for other singers. He eventually moved back to Texas to start a band, which was basically starting completely over. The gigs were hard to book and often, nobody showed up to watch. He recorded albums out of his house as well as shot and edited his own music videos.

Then one April morning in 2013, Smith’s luck would change. He checked the iTunes store and was absolutely shocked to see his new album “Dirt Road Driveway” sitting at #1. He finally signed his first record deal in 2015, and within weeks, his debut single “Backroad Song” became a chart-topping hit on mainstream country radio. The next month, his first national debut album, “Remington,” hit stores. Shows soon began packing out with passionate fans.

Since then, Smith and his band have played in 10 countries on three continents and also performed at the White House. He said that regardless of the outcome, he’s doing what he loves and loving what he’s doing—and there’s no sweeter freedom than that.
