Little Anthony and the Imperials is an R&B and doo-wop group characterized by its heartfelt sound and lead singer Jerome Anthony “Little Anthony” Gourdine’s high-pitched voice.

Formed in New York City in the late 1950s, the group signed its first record deal in 1958. It achieved instant success that same year with its debut single “Tears on My Pillow”, a mega hit that sold over one million copies. The Imperials went on to release a string of chart-topping singles through the 1960s like “Two People in the World,” “I’m on the Outside (Looking In),” “Goin’ Out Of My Head,” “Hurt So Bad,” “I Miss You So,” “Take Me Back,” and “Hurt”.

Several artists from various genres have covered the Imperial’s songs throughout the decades, marking its profound musical influence. The group was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 and the National Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2018.
