The Sycuan Learning Center is an after school-tutoring program for the children of Sycuan. The after school program offers supplemental academic programs such as tutoring, literacy, and math building skills. In addition to the academic component, the Sycuan Learning Center also offers cultural workshops and activities where Kumeyaay Language, song, and culture are emphasized. Each month, the students at the Learning Center participate in the Sycuan Science Club, which employs a culturally sensitive science curriculum based on Kumeyaay environmental management, practices, and beliefs. An exercise program is also part of the daily schedule.
Each summer, the Learning Center hosts a four-week Summer Academy where the participants explore their Kumeyaay identity through language,song and dance, theatre, science activities, crafts, and computer technology. Each week during the Summer Academy, students are encouraged to attend one of several planned educational and recreational field trips.
