George Lopez is a Mexican-American comedian, actor, and late night talk show host known for his effusive onstage presence and comedic portrayal of Mexican-American culture. He was raised by his grandmother, a factory worker, and his step grandfather, a construction worker, in Mission Hills, Los Angeles. After high school, he worked in the same factory as his grandmother before ultimately deciding to pursue comedy.

Lopez worked the stand-up circuit throughout the ‘80s and began appearing on TV shows before breaking into movies in the ‘90s. Throughout this time, he continued to do stand-up and also released several comedy albums. After being spotted by actress Sandra Bullock’s production company, Lopez partnered with her to develop a sitcom featuring a Latino family, resulting in George Lopez (2002–07). The series featured Lopez as himself and drew on his own life to depict a Mexican-American family. Lopez also hosted the talk show Lopez Tonight (2009–11), the dating show Take Me Out (2012), and the sitcom Lopez (2016-17), which was also autobiographical much like his other television work.

He has received several accolades for his work as well as his contribution to the Latin American community, including the “Imagen Vision Award” and “Latino Spirit for Excellence in TV Award.” He was also named as Time’s “25 Most Influential Hispanics in America.” Currently, Lopez is on his “Wall World Tour,” continuing to make audiences of all ages and backgrounds laugh.
