Sycuan Completes a Major Property Enhancement Project

November 18, 2015

Casino completes major property enhancement project

Sycuan Casino, San Diego’s longest operating Indian-gaming facility, has been in business for almost 33 years – a coup that none of its other competitors even come close to. Yet, being the market’s most tenured gaming property comes with responsibility. Foremost, it means setting the standard for giving back to the community that made Sycuan, and the entire San Diego gaming market, a success. It also means continuing to ensure that its patrons call Sycuan their all-time favorite gaming destination. In order to achieve the latter, the company realized it was time to find out what San Diegans truly think about the property – and then take that information to enhance the Sycuan experience.
After conducting a major market research project – and after sitting with some of its most loyal guests to hear their feedback about what was working well and what needed improvement, Sycuan embarked on several major renovations to not only improve the property of the casino, but to up the ante in the San Diego gaming arena.
“Our new stance is so much more than a new marketing campaign or standard casino messaging. We have listened to San Diego and retooled our environment specifically for them,” said John Dinius, interim general manager at Sycuan Casino. “It is about our relationship with our customers, with the community and with San Diego as a whole. We are going the extra mile to walk the walk here and be the undisputed leader in the market.” Now that the property’s facelift is finally complete the casino is anxious to showcase its new vibe to its dedicated customers. Here a few things that will undoubtedly stand out the next time you’re at Sycuan Casino.
More bang for your buck
Perhaps the piece of news that will most excite its players is the restructuring of Club Sycuan. Recognizing that there was definite room for improvement as far as player rewards were concerned, the casino completely revamped its player’s card to ensure that guests were getting more bang for their buck. What exactly does that mean? Guests will get more cash back quicker. It also means that Sycuan officially has the best cash back offers in San Diego. Not a Club Sycuan member? Bring a valid ID to Guest Services to sign up – it’s quick, easy and free! And here’s a quick insider tip: guests who are active, retired, veteran military or military spouses receive an automatic upgraded membership for additional rewards and discounts through Sycuan’s first of its kind Freedom Card.
You can breathe easier at Sycuan
It’s easy to take notice of the improved air quality. Due to the recently installed advanced air-filtration system, guests can breathe a little bit easier while enjoying all the Vegas-style action. The casino also largely expanded its nonsmoking casino which now encompasses approximately three-quarters of the first floor including games, over 750 slot machines, Paipa’s Buffet, the gift shop and more.
Excitement starts at the front door
Notice a little extra pep in your step as you entered through the main lobby? The newly constructed promotions stage just inside the main entrance is fun central. Now home to all the weekly promotions and giveaways, live DJs and top local bands, the new promotions area sets the tone from the second guests walk through the door.
More gaming options
Want to try your luck at 21 while still getting to enjoy the big game, delicious cuisine and over 30 beers on tap to choose from? The popular GameDay Sports Bar & Grill is now home to a new “Blackjack Party Pit.” Or, if the VIP experience is more your style, the recently upgraded Primerose room is the place to be. Home to a variety of games like Pai-Gow Poker and EZ Baccarat plus a private hosted area, this new high-limit gaming lounge is fit for any VIP.
It’s more than a casino – it’s a lifestyle
Sycuan Casino recently released new TV, radio, print and outdoor advertisements to the masses. What’s the message they are looking to communicate? They have been and always will be San Diego’s casino. “Sycuan is a sincere brand – so being authentically a part of the San Diego community will always be a priority to us,” said Dan Morales, director of marketing for Sycuan. “The objective of our campaigns is to realistically communicate what Sycuan represents. You’ll notice that the same server who hands you your beverage in the Primerose room or the security guard who greets you at our front door is the same person walking in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure or picking up trash at our local beaches with our Green Team.” The campaign itself is a slice of life in San Diego featuring the close connection Sycuan Casino has to the community and, of course, nonstop gaming action. “Throughout the campaign, these are real Sycuan Casino employees. They are veterans. They are volunteers. They are amazing people to interact with on the casino floor. It is so real and we are so proud of that.”
The coolest part? The TV and radio campaigns feature numerous local celebrities – see if you can catch them all. From San Diego Padres icon Steve Garvey, to NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, former San Diego Chargers superstar Bill Ray Smith, professional wrestler Rey Mysterio Jr. and more.
What made Sycuan famous still remains
Even with all the enhancements, Sycuan knew better than to adjust the ingredients that make the casino what it is. So the term “out with the old, in with the new” doesn’t necessarily apply here. Guests can still enjoy classic gaming options like video and reel slots in a variety of denominations and over 2,000 machines to choose from; an array of table games including blackjack, three and four-card poker, casino craps, roulette, EZ Baccarat, Pai-Gow poker and more – plus the classic game of Bingo and off-track betting.
Sycuan also has an excellent collection of dining venues from the decadent Paipa’s Buffet which features over 100 delicious dishes; Wachena, the ultimate in creative dishes in a contemporary setting; and GameDay Sports Bar & Grill, home to 39 large screen TVs, over 30 beers on tap, a full cocktail selection, 29 bar top video poker machines and great casual food. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, choose from Sunset Deli, the perfect place for an array of deli sandwiches, pizza and more favorites without taking away too much time from all the fun; or DoubleDown Grill, open around the clock with an impressive variety of burgers, soup, salad and more.
And if you want to top off the night with a show featuring your favorite musician or comedian, Live & Up Close is where you can get up close and intimate with world-class live entertainment acts. Featuring state-of-the-art sound and lighting, excellent acoustics and just 457 plush seats, the venue has featured legendary acts like Marie Osmond, Bret Michaels, George Lopez, Sara Evans, the Commodores, Abba, Drew Carey, Jenny McCarthy and more.
Sycuan knows what’s important
Last – and ultimately most poignant, is Sycuan’s annual charitable giving and efforts to make the community better. Both on the tribal level and the casino level, Sycuan as a whole has a long history of providing substantial services and support to a variety of civic organizations. From having the largest team in San Diego’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure; to the Sycuan Green Team who is an assembly of casino employees dedicated to proactively developing recycling programs and educating team members on the importance of respecting the environment; to donating 5% of GameDay Sports Bar & Grill’s yearly proceeds to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Sycuan is more than a casino – it’s an organization that is dedicated to making a difference in America’s finest city.
