Program focused on tribe's community impact and diversification
November 22, 2006
San Diego, CA – The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation has been honored with two prestigious awards for their work on a television public awareness campaign that highlights the tribes many diverse aspects. The Public Relations Society of America's San Diego Chapter presented Sycuan a Bronze Bernays Award for outstanding external video programs and the International Davey's Awards honored Sycuan with a Silver Award in the commercials category.
“We are honored to receive national recognition for our work on this public awareness campaign,” said Daniel Tucker, Sycuan Tribal Chairman. “But more importantly, we are proud to have developed the positive relationships and the many successful programs that are highlighted within these 10 messages, and look forward to building new partnerships in 2007.”
Both awards pay tribute to Sycuan's efforts to raise public awareness about the numerous positive impacts the tribe has on the San Diego region. Sycuan developed a series of 10 messages that were produced and aired throughout an 18-month period. The messages focused on providing insight into Sycuan's role as a sovereign government, offering a historical perspective on the tribe, highlighting the many community outreach programs and contributions made by the tribe and to keep the public aware of Sycuan's business enterprises and economic diversification. The television spots featured San Diego community leaders including Mayor Jerry Sanders, Trevor Hoffman, Major League Baseball's all-time saves leader, Antonio Gates, tight-end for the San Diego Chargers and former San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Jesse Knight.
