More Than $120,000 to be Donated to Local Charities
November 22, 2006
San Diego, CA – According to www.charitynavigator.com, 50 percent of all charitable giving is done between Thanksgiving and New Years. While the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation thrives on giving to others all year long, the holiday season kicks off a special program at the Casino that allows employees at Sycuan to honor local charities and organizations of their choice. This year's charitable giving program has earmarked more than $120,000 for local organizations.
To honor those individuals and organizations that have committed themselves to improving the lives of others and maintaining the quality of life in San Diego, Sycuan is hosting a breakfast and donation ceremony on Tuesday, November 28th at the Sycuan Resort and Casino to present more than 25 charities with donations. The donation ceremony will take place in front of a 50-foot Christmas tree at the main entrance of the casino. Some of this year's recipients include the Alpha Project, San Diego Police Officers Association, Kid's Turn San Diego, Mama's Kitchen, Challenged Athlete Association, and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
“At Sycuan we are fortunate enough to have the ability to contribute to organizations that make up the foundation of the San Diego community,” said Daniel J. Tucker, Sycuan Tribal Chairman. “Through this program, the tribe and our employees are able to share in the joy that comes with giving to others at this special time of year.” About three months ago, Sycuan asked their employees to start thinking about local organizations that they would like to honor with a donation. Each tribal council member and department at the resort and casino identified a charity of their choice and will present the donation to them at the ceremony. The donation ceremony starts at 10:00 a.m. and will mark the beginning of the Holiday Season at Sycuan.
