On October 12th, more than 300 golfers gathered at the beautiful Sycuan Resort in Dehesa Valley in support of Sycuan's 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This year's beneficiary was the Challenge Center located in La Mesa, California. By generating $40,000 for the Challenge Center, this year¹s event proved to be Sycuan's most successful tournament to date. The Challenge Center offers a wide array of services focused on improving health, function and quality of life for those living with severe physical disabilities.

"Sycuan is committed to helping organizations in our community that help others. We couldn't think of a better organization to partner with than the Challenge Center for our annual tournament," said Daniel J. Tucker, Sycuan Tribal Chairman. "Choosing a beneficiary is always a difficult task as there are so many worthy organizations we would like to help. We are very fortunate to have Challenge Center in our community to help our neighbors and we are honored to provide our tournament proceeds to assist them as they continue to help so many people."

Silent and live auction items raised over $10,000.

"Challenge Center's mission is focused on providing high quality, low cost physical therapy services to persons who, without those services, face lifelong decline in health, function and quality of life. Through skilled physical therapy and specialized, assisted fitness services offered beyond health insurance limitations, participants reach functional goals never thought possible. With generous contributions, Challenge Center is able to change hundreds of lives each year ... one step at a time," said Tiffany Piquilloud, Executive Director, Challenge Center. "All of us at Challenge Center are grateful to have the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation so generously support Challenge Center¹s work and are proud that with their support, we dramatically and directly improve the lives of San Diegans living with disabilities."

Continuing its tradition as one of San Diego's most anticipated golf events each year, participants began the spectacular day by receiving a variety of gifts, including a shirt, cap, watch fob to attach to their golf bag and a certificate redeemable in a specially designed, participant only golf shop. Following registration, players could put their putting skills to the test in the Progressive Gaming International© Putting Contest for a chance to win a Scotty Cameron Putter or could proceed to the Rocket Gaming© Practice Range to loosen up before tee time. Once the golfers hit the course, a dedicated staff of volunteers assisted with directions, food and beverage stations and preparing for the post tournament reception, featuring opportunity drawing winners, great food and both silent and live auctions.

As the sun set, the players streamed off the course to make final bids on silent auction items and check opportunity drawing winners. Silent auction items included autographed memorabilia from San Diego Padres and San Diego Chargers superstars (Khalil Greene, Mike Cameron and Brian Giles from the Padres, Antonio Gates, Phillip Rivers and Shawne Merriman from the Chargers). The Live auction featured a Petco Park Suite for a 2007 Padres game, a shadowbox with signed items from Major League Baseball's All-Time Saves Leader, Trevor Hoffman and a signed helmet and jersey from Charger All-Pro Running Back Ladanian Tomlinson. The raffle, silent auction and live auction raised over $10,000 in proceeds.

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation thanks all of its corporate sponsors and participants for a great day of golf and making the tournament an overwhelmingly successful event. Sycuan is proud and committed to helping organizations such as Challenge Center provide their incredibly important work throughout the community.
