Heroic efforts saved live of four-year old boy
San Diego, CA (November 1, 2006) – On September 24, 2006, four-year old Joshua Weiss was playing at the Rancho Hillside Apartment swimming pool when he was electrocuted while trying to turn on the jets for the Jacuzzi. The electrical charge surged through his body and held him to a steel fence. His mother and public safety officer Andy Lanz, who was also at the pool that day, immediately reacted to the situation and pulled Joshua from the fence. Four-year old Joshua had no pulse and was not breathing. Officer Lanz immediately began CPR and within minutes, Joshua was conscious and screaming.
“Officer Lanz's remarkable dedication to professionalism in this emergency situation represents the best our organization has to offer,” said William Denke, Chief of Police. “I am proud to have Officer Lanz as part of the Sycuan Tribal Police Department; his courage serves as an inspiration to us all.”
Please join the Sycuan Tribal Police Department on Thursday, November 2, at the Sycuan Resort, formerly Singing Hills, to honor Officer Lanz with a LIFE SAVING AWARD for his heroic efforts. The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. The nationally recognized award is given to law enforcement, EMTS, fire fighters or citizens whose actions save the life of a fellow citizen in an emergency. Officer Lanz will be awarded a certificate, medal and a ribbon to wear on his daily uniform. “My son is laughing and playing today, thanks to Andy's selflessness, courage and bravery,” said Ronald Weiss. “There is nothing I can say or do to show our gratitude to Andy, our family will forever be grateful to him.”
