San Diego District Attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis announced today that the San Diego Victims Emergency Relief Fund has been established to provide immediate emergency help to victims of violent crime throughout the County, with the help of private donations.
“When violent crime strikes, it often robs victims of more than health and safety. It takes away their dignity and often leaves them helpless and hopeless,” DA Dumanis said. “We want to give more victims hope and this fund goes a long way in achieving that goal.”
The San Diego Victims Emergency Relief Fund was made possible with generous support from the San Diego Foundation, Cox Communications, Cubic Corporation, and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. San Diego County residents may also contribute to the fund.
“Sycuan congratulates District Attorney Dumanis for her vision in creating this fund and her dedication to assisting victims of crime,” Sycuan Tribal Chairman Daniel Tucker said. “We are extremely proud to be a part of this innovative program, and encourage other businesses and concerned citizens to join with the District Attorney to enhance these vitally needed resources.”
Victims need help immediately. The goal of the San Diego Victims Emergency Relief Fund is to provide that help as soon as it is needed. Anyone wishing to donate may call:
(866) 755-HOPE or donate online at www.helpcrimevictims.org
Many organizations assist the District Attorney's Office in helping cri me victims regularly, but more resources and support are needed. These victims often need im me diate help with food, me dical services, housing, and personal items. The goal of the fund is to provide help to victims with special needs within days instead of the months it normally takes to get help from the State Restitution Fund. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved the fund at this morning's meeting.
A public service announcement is scheduled to be aired on Cox Communications cable TV stations asking for donations from members of the public.
