August 21, 2003

National City, CA - The National City Community Development Commission has unanimously approved an exclusive negotiating agreement that will allow Sycuan Tribal Development Corp., Latino Builders and MRW Group to proceed with plans for the development of the Marina Gateway project in the city's Harbor District.

The CDC approved moving forward with negotiations with a new development partnership led by Sycuan with Latino Builders and MRW Group. Sycuan is planning a $30 million project within Marina Gateway that will include a 170-room high-end hotel, with a quality restaurant and conference center.

“The Sycuan Tribe formed the Sycuan Tribal Development Corporation as a way to diversify the business interests of the tribe and to create a vehicle for the tribe to invest back into the communities of the San Diego region,” said Adam Day, Director of Public Affairs for Sycuan. “Our investment in this project continues the program started with the purchase of Singing Hills Country Club and will allow us to be involved in an important redevelopment project that will help create new jobs and tax revenue for National City .”

According to Day, the Tribe has absolutely no plans to propose gaming in this National City project. He stressed that the importance of this project is to diversify the tribe beyond gaming as a means to further secure the future well-being of tribal members, while at the same time investing in profitable projects that benefit the broader community through job creation and tax generation.

Under the negotiating agreement approved by the CDC, during the next 90 days, Sycuan will work with the City to finalize development plans, secure project funding, to develop a project schedule and to establish a purchase price for the site. Sycuan is hopeful that all agreements and approvals will be completed during the negotiating period to allow the project to be completed within two years.
